Completed in 2024, Mariposa is a custom home designed by LACM Group for a wooded hillside property in Lago Vista, Texas, near Lake Travis. The architectural design brings together natural stone, expressive arches, shaded terraces, intimate courtyards and art-filled gardens to create a home connected to its Texas Hill Country setting.
The residence unfolds across the site as a sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces. Balconies, patios, garden paths and exterior gathering areas extend the experience of the home into the surrounding landscape, while arched openings frame views and bring natural light into the interior.
Indoor-Outdoor Living
Outdoor living is central to the architectural design of Mariposa. Covered patios, balconies, courtyards and garden spaces create places for gathering, dining and quiet reflection.
A pool terrace and outdoor fireplace provide a setting for entertaining, while smaller shaded spaces offer more intimate connections to the property. Stone walls, arches and carefully positioned openings help define these outdoor rooms and connect them to the residence.
Architectural Design Shaped by the Site
Mariposa was designed in response to the character and topography of its Lago Vista property. Natural stone visually anchors the residence to the hillside, while terraces, balconies and exterior stairs establish connections between the home’s different levels and the landscape.
Covered outdoor spaces offer shade and create gradual transitions between interior rooms, courtyards and gardens. The composition gives the residence a strong architectural presence while maintaining a comfortable, human scale.
Art, Gardens and Personal Expression
Art and landscape contribute significantly to the identity of Mariposa. Sculptures, fountains, water features and garden paths create moments of discovery throughout the property.
The name Mariposa, meaning “butterfly,” is expressed through artwork and imagery found around the residence and gardens. These elements give the home a personal character shaped by the interests and vision of its owners.
